Van de week heb ik een stem module voor burger initiatieven op Europees niveau afgerond. Hieronder de oorspronkelijk uitleg over het concept.

Voorbeeld initiatieven:

- The European Parliament should have one seat (Brussels) only. Having a seat in Strasbourg and in Brussels does not add any value and leads to unnecessary costs.

- Citizens should be able to elect the President of the European Union as this is also the case in other democracies as in the U.S.A.

The objective of this website is firstly contributing to European integration by bringing people from all around Europe together to strengthen Europe. The second objective is to promote active citizenship, by providing an independent platform for citizens, to share their ideas with the rest of Europe.

This website anticipates a vital upcoming change in the EU treaties, which gives EU citizens a possibility to directly influence EU policy making: the citizens' initiative as laid down in the Treaty of Lisbon. This website is the entrée platform for you (citizen of Europe) to start up debates, launch new proposals to strengthen Europe and speak out on issues Europeans want the European Union to focus on.

This websites intends to represent an independent platform, a channel, to propose a policy idea, find supporters throughout Europe and raise one million citizens' votes, in order to be able to ask the Commission to present a proposal in any of the EU's areas of responsibility.

The Advisory Board of One Million Votes will analyse policy proposals which have received sufficient support and help the initiators of the idea to set up a European campaign to reach the one million votes.

Practical details of this initiative still need to be worked out once the Treaty takes effect, but we don't have to wait for that day!! With or without the Treaty in place, discussing important policy ideas among voters and between voters and their elected representatives is vital.

We of one million votes for Europe believe in the possibility to narrow the gap between citizens and European politics. The citizens' initiative is one step closer to a more democratic European Union. Let's make sure we use the power of initiative and create momentum to influence real decision making. Together we stand strong.

Klik op 'Ik doneer mijn status aan D66'. We zullen wekelijks automatisch je status updaten. In de laatste weken van de Europese campagne zullen we dit vaker doen, maar niet meer dan één keer per dag. Je bent nog steeds in staat om zelf je status te updaten en je kunt ons altijd de toegang tot je status ontzeggen (hetzij door het verwijderen van de applicatie of het wijzigen van je instellingen).

Waarom is dit belangrijk?
De Europese verkiezingen op 4 juni zijn cruciaal want D66 is de enige partij die 'JA' zegt tegen Europa. Omdat we Europa nodig hebben als krachtig antwoord op de kredietcrisis, als motor voor serieuze investeringen in duurzame energie en als sterke speler op het internationale toneel dat nu wordt gedomineerd door andere grootmachten.
